THE OLD COWBOY Part Thirty Six
"Ya come back tomorrow then and I'll tell ya 'bout them wrestlers."
Mom hadn't said why she wanted me home early, so I couldn't tell Grandpa what I was doing. I just assured him I'd be back tomorrow, and rode off.
"Mom, I'm home," I blurted out."
"O.K. honey. Why don't you come on in here, we've got a lot to do."
"O.K." Mom had a day of cleaning out the closets to help with the was effort. I didn't mind helping mom, especially after learning how Grandma died. We worked for a couple of hours and mom went to start dinner leaving me to finish.
Dad came in and helped me carry the boxes of clothing out to the car. He said he'd drop everything off on his lunch break tomorrow.
Tomorrow came with me thinking about Grandpa and all that he had been through in his life. He must have gotten very tired, leaving his 'mark' on the trails of the cattle country all over the western United States.
"Well there ya are Grandboy. Ya get yer ma's work done, I sp'ose?"
"Yes sir I sure did. She Had a hankerin' ta clean out them closets and give the clothing to the 'Good Will' for help with the war effort. That made me feel good, helpin' them folks less fortunate than us.
You remember yesterday you were about to tell me about them wrestlers Grandpa?"
"Yes sir. Well, ya know them wrestlers had rode off that night and one of 'em'd been shot and we thought we'd seen the last of 'em. Not true, they'd rode over south of the boss mans spread and rested up, and waited.
The day after we pushed in to the ranch they made a run at us, but I had the drovers ready. I just had a feelin' in my gut they'd be back. They came in from..."
