A LETTER FROM ECHO
Dear Friend,
Our last days were good and I know you did your best. It was time for me to go. I was accepting of this. I know you were not. If I waited for your acceptance of life and what was meant to be, you would have never been ready. But then, who is. I left knowing you were by my side as you have always been.
I remember when I first saw you. I was only a pup of 4 months. I think you humans call it "love at first sight". I was intending to be mom’s best friend until I looked into your eyes and felt your warm gentle touch. WE needed a best friend. You were my best friend and I was yours. We shared a bond of unconditional love. In your eyes I was #1 and in my eyes you were #1 - #2 - #3------
I have no regrets except that I have left you with a heavy heart. Remember all the happy times you and I have shared. I loved the canyon, riding in the car, sleeping in your bed with a pillow and blanket, eating human food and don’t forget, with a spoon. Remember when you dressed me in your clothes? That was fun. Remember how special I looked in sun glasses? But best of all, I just loved being near you, receiving love and kindness.
Think of me with a happy heart and not with sadness. I do not want you to be sad that I have gone. Be happy for me. I’m with mom’s friend, Lady. She’s cool. In fact, I’m with all of mom’s friends including your friend Brandy and our Kahlua. You’ll be happy to know Kahlua and I have been running around together in the tallest, green grass I’ve ever seen. Guess what? Kahlua looks great. By the way I want you to know my leg isn’t swollen and it doesn’t hurt. I feel like a brand new Echo.
Have patience with Atalie. I did. And give Kali lots of love: she’s the new kid on the block. I left with them my knowledge, but you know how kids are, they need to learn for themselves. I also shared with them the secret of how to wrap you around their little paw.
One day you and I will be together again. Until then I will wait with mom’s friends, our friend Kahlua, enjoying an occasional hug and pat on the head from grandma and grandpa.
I love you Lee,
Echo
